Indonesia has indicated it may withdraw from the US-proposed "Board of Peace" if the board's decisions do not support Indonesian or Palestinian interests, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto stated on Thursday.

Speaking during a discussion with journalists and analysts in Bogor, West Java, Prabowo explained that Indonesia joined the board as a strategic move to advance Palestine's interests from within the forum. He emphasized that participating offers a more effective way to influence policy compared to remaining outside the body.

However, the president stressed that Indonesia's membership is conditional and subject to review. He warned that the country would not hesitate to leave the board if its outcomes prove counterproductive or fail to align with Indonesia's commitment to Palestinian independence.

Prabowo also highlighted that Indonesia reserves the right to withdraw independently without needing approval from other members.

This stance reflects Indonesia's long-standing foreign policy priority of supporting Palestinian statehood. Prabowo reiterated that engaging in international mechanisms aims to ensure Indonesia can actively contribute to advancing a just and lasting solution.

The "Board of Peace" was officially launched by US President Donald Trump in Davos, Switzerland, in January. The group has faced skepticism and indifference, with many countries concerned it might overlap with or undermine the role of the United Nations.
